How loudly is my biological clock really ticking?

We want a second child – can we still take our time?
What is the biological clock?
When people talk about the biological clock, they are referring to two parameters of female fertility:
- The ovarian reserve
- The biological age of the eggs
Every woman is born with a certain number of eggs, known as the ovarian reserve. This reserve decreases with each cycle and is usually depleted by the time of menopause.
Fertility reserve and age in women
* Nach Ludwig und Hahn( 2008) Mit wenigen Parametern die ovarielle Reserve sicher erheben, Frauenarzt 49, Nr. 5, Seite 400 und de Bruin u. te Velde (2004) Female reproductive aging: concepts and consquences, in:Tulandi D, Gosden R (eds), Preservation of Fertility. Taylor and Francis , London, Seite 3
This loss of eggs, and with it the fertile phase, happens much more quickly in some women.
A woman's biological age can significantly differ from her chronological age.
As age increases, the quality of the eggs also declines significantly, reducing the chances of pregnancy and increasing the risk of miscarriage.
What can I do?
Determining your individual fertility reserve
Your individual fertility reserve can be determined by measuring the Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH). Ideally, this analysis should be combined with a specialized ultrasound at the beginning of the cycle (Antral Follicle Count = AFC).
If your egg reserve is significantly reduced, we will be happy to advise you on how to achieve pregnancy as quickly as possible and fulfill your dream of having a child.

Preserving fertility...
For women whose life plans currently do not allow for pregnancy, or those who are currently without a partner, it is possible to retrieve and freeze unfertilized eggs (cryopreservation). This way, the chance for a future pregnancy can be preserved.
